Circles Anniversary Card 2 by inspiredcreativity Circles Anniversary Card 2 by inspiredcreativity
Download to see full size and detail.

I made this Anniversary Card for my partner in 2003. I couldn't decide on keeping the path lines visible, so I made one with and one without. The original file is in InDesign.

The Lines of Text say:
    :bulletpink: The Circle of Life
    :bulletpink: The Stream of Time
:bulletpink: The Circle of Our Love
:bulletpink: The Circle of Our Dreams
    :bulletpink: Matthew Loves Greg
    :bulletpink: Greg Loves Matthew
The Text Inside The Card Says:
My Dearest Greg,
As we travel along the path of time,
my love for you grows evermore stronger.

With all my Love,
Matthew

I was looking for a way to use typography to express my love in a unique way. I thought of how I had different things I wanted to say. I had already told him in bronze, "As Time is eternal, so is our love." But I still wanted to interject the concept of time into our love and our relationship. We were together 13 years then, and 21 years now.

Relationships are somewhat chaotic, not all nice and neat and tidy. I wanted something somewhat chaotic, but I am Autistic and I am thus somewhat ruled by order, so why not use order in an intermingled and thus chaotic way, using order to create chaos? I also wanted turning circles like the gears of the clock of time.

Relationships survive when partners bend like two palm trees in the hurricane winds of life. The challenging rock in the river of time sees the water flow around it, dividing into two paths and then rejoining on the other side of the rock in chaotic swirls and eddies. Thus the river's flow is not stopped by challenging rocks, it simply flows around and come back together again, whole again. In this way, relationships, a team of individuals, work tother to overcome obstacles without being broken upon the rocks.

I wanted to show the sinuous path of the stream of time as it meanders through the turning circles of our lives, our love and dreams, through order and chaos, steady and unstoppable.

Somehow, I do not think he saw much of that, but I know it is there, and my heart smiles.

Most magical typography I've ever seen. :dummy:
From small view, it looks like glowing lights/energy.

Thank you. As you can see, it is a love letter. You can actually change the names and text in the original InDesign document. I was looking for a way to use typography to express my love in a unique way. I thought of how I had different things I wanted to say. Like, "Time is as eternal and as our love is," but I had used that one on him already. But I wanted to interject the concept of time into our love and our relationship. We are together 21 years now. Relationships are somewhat chaotic, not all nice and neat and tidy. I wanted something somewhat chaotic, but I am Autistic and I am thus somewhat ruled by order, so why not use order in an intermingled and thus chaotic way, using order to create chaos? I wanted turning circles like the gears of the clock of time.

Yeah, really, the text is all over the place but it's very neat at the same time. and that is an interesting way to define relationships... now I can imagine the circles of words in this picture turning like gears in a clock. 21 years is a long time, but you sound very happy to be with this person, and I can see that here. :meow:

this is beautiful, would you be able to design one for me, only with three circles?

Thank you. There are currently 5 circles. Did you mean 1 large Encompassing circle with three inner circles? It can also be done with the paths revealed, as in [link] .

I am disabled now and unable to do much work. But it might be simple enough for me to do if there is not a time crunch. It depends on how many changes have to be made.

Hmm, yes, I meant three inner circles. I like the paths revealed, it almost makes a Merkaba symbol. I could probably figure out how to do it myself, I just really love your design! My friend is getting married in August, I wanted to do something special for her.

Do you know how to use Adobe InDesign? If so I can send it to you to do yourself.

If I have some months to find the time to do it, I could probably do it. I chose to do 4 circles because of the patterns formed by the intersections and overlapping of the circles. When it is printed on 8.5 x 11 gloss or semigloss stock, it does not look so messy and hard to read.

no, it's not messy or hard to read, it's beautiful, i just like 3 circles signifying an equal and harmonious union, it also has connections to mine and my friend's spiritualities :)

my computer can't run adobe photoshop or any of it's affiliate programs

You can do this in Photoshop using "Type On Path". You use the Pen tool to create a path.

Here is how to do it: [link]

I think it looks better without the lines.

Typing on a path (or whatever the tool was called) was my favorite tool in InDesign. It's really fun to use.

This is really sweet! I hope he liked it.

Thanks. No lines seems the preference so far. It is the one I actually printed on a semi-gloss card stock.

When you're married, gushing over what your partner makes for you is a rule, steeped in thousands of years of tradition. LOL

With my X, i once got him a Grandfather clock (those West Virginia boys love'em) and had a brass plate made for it. It said "A Time Is Eternal, So Is my Love." He left me for a bartender while I was away at sea. He hocked the clock. So much for the eternal shit. LOL But seriously, even if you break up, You carry that person with you to the grave. They become part of who are. so in a sense, it is eternal, if there is anything after death.

Take care.

Did you see the text in the "Artist's Comments" area. I wrote out each line so it could be read easier.

The original is in InDesign and is scalable to whatever size I need, since it is all text on path. When I printed it at full size it was legible.

I had a duty and responsibility to make it challenging for him to decipher, did I not? LOL We can't make it too for them.

My eyes have trouble dealing with sort of thing too. Thank goodness I could turn off all the layers except for the one I was working on.

I could have done things differently, and used different fonts, done a better job on tracking and kerning, but it was done very quickly.

Before posting them here, I thought to fix them, then realized it would be a lot of work, and said "The Hell With It" and posted them as is.

Thanks. I forgot to say that I was not posting it like it was art piece. It is more of a sentimental piece.
