This Tutorial shows a simple technique for preventing blowout and burnout when you are increasing the Dynamic Range of a photo. This problem in frequent in the post-processing of photographs.

There are often Photos which are too flat, and may even have blowout already present. But when you go to use Photoshop's Levels, Curves, or Contrast, to increase Dynamic Range, the peak highlights blow-out and/or the deep shadows burn-out.

This technique shows you how to isolate peak highlights and deep shadows, so that you can then adjust the rest of the image however you wish.
